My first night at Auburn
As I sat there waiting to meet my roommate for the next week, I reviewed the packet laid out for me. Auburn University Journalism camp was what I had signed up for in March. I had been preparing myself for what was ahead of me that summer. Now, as I read the schedule for this week, I was showing no sign of let down on what I had hoped we would be doing this week.
Within the next ten minutes, Molly walked into the room. We sat there trying to get to know each other and predicting what this week might be like. Soon after meeting her, I was excited to learn that we were similar in more than one way. Later, we walked into the other girls room to introduce ourselves and learn about the girls we'd be with throughout the week. Luckily, all the girls are so sweet and fun. Within an hour, all the nervousness and panic that I had acquired earlier that afternoon, was vanishing.
Once we all met downstairs at six, we walked to an outdoor pavilion where we were welcomed by some of the administration of Auburn. Then, our noses were overwhelmed with the scent of barbecue and chicken. We all gathered around and ate our dinner in excitement now that we were all meeting each other. After are wonderful meal, we sat in a circle and were assigned people to pair up with and interview. That is when I met Zack from Ariton, Alabama. He is such a nice guy. I was happy to learn that he enjoyed reading just as much as me and we also share a favorite book called To Kill a Mockingbird.
There after, we all introduced the people we had been paired off with and learned about everyone. With all the laughter from the silly stories coming from peoples introduction, I had to sit there and appreciate the opportunity that was given to us all this week. Not only do we get to meet people from all over the country this week, but we all get a chance of a lifetime. We will be able to work on the skills we have been given and increase the passion we all have for journalism.
